Umar Tanimu Umar is a Public Health Scientist with vast experience in clinical diagnosis, health system strengthening, health financing, quality assurance, and general management of the healthcare system. He has also played a role as Laboratory Focal Person for HIV activities under the support of the Implementing Partners Friends for Global Health in Nigeria (FGHI), Family Health International (FHI), and the Centre for Integrated
Health Program (CIHP), which provides technical and logistic support to health facilities.
He chaired various committees on quality assessment, quality improvement, and Infection Control. He was also a laboratory focal person of the PMTCT (Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission) committee in Gombe State. He worked as a Medical Laboratory Scientist in General Hospital Bajoga and Head of Laboratory Services in General Hospital Dukku and Infectious Diseases Hospital Zambuk, all in Gombe State. He worked at the Staff Clinic of the Nigerian Ports Authority, Apapa-Lagos. In all these facilities, he had the task of conducting routine laboratory analysis and supervising interns, Medical Laboratory Technicians, Medical Laboratory Assistants, and students under training.
He variously heads the Publicity Committee of the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN), a role in which he coordinates real-time coverage of the association’s conferences, public health lectures, and NEC Meetings, as well as spearheading the official communique from such events.
He is an associate of the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (AMLSCN) with a specialty in Clinical Chemistry from the National Veterinary and Medical Laboratory College Vom, a holder of a BSc in Biochemistry from the University of Maiduguri and a Masters Degree in Public Health from Maryam Abacha American University, Maradi, Niger Republic.
